Ch. 12. From Glory to Glory. The fear of the Lord will keep us from compromising God's truth for the pursuit of personal gain.

2 Cor. 3:16 but whenever a man turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.

(1) Paul said in Romans 12:1 I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. When we will turn control of our bodies over to Jesus the ________ is taken away. This veil prevents us from seeing the Glory of God in its fulness.

What our Lord expects from us is to become like him a bond-servant; one who willingly commits himself to doing the will of the master. Philip. 2:7 [Jesus] but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.

(1) Jesus became God's __________-__________.

This became a term that the apostles and disciples of "the way" referred to themselves .Col. 1:7 just as you learned it from Epaphras, our beloved fellow bond-servant, who is a faithful servant of Christ on our behalf,

(1) Epaphras is called a ____________ bond-servant.

Many who claim to serve Jesus, especially by works, attendance at church, gifts etcetera are blind, for the Lord calls our works, . . ."And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment;" . . . . Isaiah 64:6 b.

(1) Our works are viewed by God as a ____________ garment.

Luke 6:46 "And why do you call Me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say? The Greek word for Lord is kurios, it means lord, master in the sense of complete authority.

(1) If Jesus is that complete authority in our lives then we must ____________.

When God created man He said "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." Genesis 1:26

(1) God gave man ____________________ over the ___________,.which man, by his choosing to believe Satan rather than obey God, submitted to Satan who now rules planet earth.

Does Satan have this authority now? Read carefully Luke 4:6 as Satan tries to influence Jesus. And the devil said to Him, "I will give You all this domain and its glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.

(1) It was _________ over to me (Satan) and I can give it to whomever I _______.

John 12:31 "Now judgment is upon this world; now the ruler of this world shall be cast out.

(1) Does Jesus make it clear that the ruler of this world is other than God?____

John 10:10 "The thief [Satan] comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy; I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly.

(1) God often gets blamed for the death and destruction in this world, but who is really responsible? ___________________________.

Because of what Jesus did on the cross we can now see clearly that we have a choice as to which kingdom and what Lord we will serve. John 9:39 And Jesus said, "For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see; and that those who see may become blind."

(1) Those who were spiritually blind may now ___________ .

(2) What will happen to a person, who continues, to choose to live under Satan's authority? _____________________________________________.

Isaiah 55:8-9 "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Neither are your ways My ways," declares the Lord. [9] "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.

(1) His thoughts are not the same as the _________ of a person of the earth.

(2) His ways are not the _________ of a natural born person.

(3) God is spirit, man is flesh, is it possible for the natural born person of the earth to accommodate, contemplate, and conform to spiritual concepts and laws? _____________________.

Unless we will offer ourselves as a living sacrifice, we are therefore condemned to live as natural men under the authority of the "prince of this world," Satan. When we will present ourselves to God, He will change our thought patterns and modify our behavior. Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

(1) How will God modify our thought patterns that we may begin to think as He thinks? _____________________________

Titus 2:11-12 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. [12] It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age (NIV)

(1) When we will submit ourselves to His authority, how will God modify our behavior? The _________ ____ ________ teaches us to say "No" to ______________ and____________ __________, and to live _____________, ____________ and __________ __________ in this present age,

Luke 14:33 "So therefore, no one of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions. [ huparcho, in this context means possessions or wealth and would be the same idea as mammon].

(1) To whom are we to give up control of our earthly riches? ____________

Luke 16:13 "No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other, or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon." [mamonas, riches].

(1) Unless we will submit our entire persons, including our possessions, willingly to God's control we cannot be God's ________________. Our minds will remain _________________. Romans 12:2 a And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,

"We can relinquish complete ownership of our lives to Jesus or retain it and remain trapped under the dominion of a lost and dying world." (t) We can subject ourselves to the laws of the kingdom of God when we submit our selves, as bond servants to Jesus, Literally as Romans 12: 1 living sacrifices. Choosing to live in Christ's kingdom and obey the laws of that kingdom," We are freed from the control of the kingdom of this world.

The Veil of Deception:

Remember that old Testament events were recorded for our training as examples to us. [ 1Cor.10:6,11]

1 Samuel 15:1-3 Then Samuel said to Saul, "The Lord sent me to anoint you as king over His people, over Israel; now therefore, listen to the words of the Lord. [2] "Thus says the Lord of hosts, 'I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he set himself against him on the way while he was coming up from Egypt. [3] 'Now go and strike Amalek and utterly destroy all that he has, and do not spare him; but put to death both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.' "

(1) If this passage comes as a shock to you it is probably that you have only been taught of the great love of God without any reference to His Justice, especially concerning Israel. Saul was told to put to death _______, ________, _________, ________, _____, _______,_______ and donkey

1 Samuel 15:6 And Saul said to the Kenites, "Go, depart, go down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for you showed kindness to all the sons of Israel when they came up from Egypt." So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

(1) Did Saul understand that he was an instrument of God's justice. _______ because he was only sent against the Amalekites, for what they did to Israel.

1 Samuel 15:9 But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were not willing to destroy them utterly; but everything despised and worthless, that they utterly destroyed.

(1) Did Saul carry out his orders completely? _____________.

1 Samuel 15:13 And Samuel came to Saul, and Saul said to him, "Blessed are you of the Lord! I have carried out the command of the Lord."

(1) Did Saul believe that he had been completely obedient in carrying out God's command to completely destroy the Amalekites? _____________ He was self deceived .

James 1:22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.

(1) One who hears the word but does not do exactly what it says has _____________ themselves.

1 Samuel 15:22-23 And Samuel said, "Has the Lord as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams. [23] "For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and insubordination is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has also rejected you from being king."

(1) Would God prefer our obedience or our religious acts? _____________. Religion can be defined as those things that we do to please or gain the acceptance of God.

(2) What did God call Saul's partial obedience? ______________________.

(3) How does God view our partial obedience to His word? ______________.

This is why it is so important for the person, not willing to be completely obedient to the word of God to discredit it by insisting that it is not inerrant or literal and is subject to interpretation .

Saul seized upon an opportunity to enhance his image among his people. Remember the principle that our Author pointed out in chapter eleven "To fear God, tremble at His word is to 'willingly obey God even when it appears more advantageous to compromise or not obey His word.'"

(4)Did Saul compromise Gods command [word] to his own benefit? ______

What Mirror are you Beholding?

James 1:22-24 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. [23] For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; [24] for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.

(1) A person who hears God's word and does not do what it says ___________ themselves.

(2) God's word is like a mirror. It reveals who we really are, sinful condemned men, sorely in need of a savior. James analogy' is of the man whose image reflects his need to be washed by the water of the word, and does not accept God's provision. When he chooses not to do what the word says, he is like a man who walks away and ____________ what kind of a person he was..

In Psalm 55:19, the last half of the verse says " men who never change their ways and have no fear of God. (Niv)

(1) The reason so many can attend church, sing, praise, even preach yet experience little or no change in their lives is because they have no ________ of God. They do everything except ___________ God according to Romans 12:1 I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

2 Tim. 3:1-8 But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. [2] For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, [3] unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, [4] treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God; [5] holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; and avoid such men as these. [6] For among them are those who enter into households and captivate weak women weighed down with sins, led on by various impulses, [7] always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. [8] And just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men of depraved mind, rejected as regards the faith.

(1) What few words would you use to describe these men in verse 5? _____ ____________________________________________________________

(2) Verse 7 describes men who will look into the mirror of God's word and ________________ from it, ____________ who they were.

2 Tim. 3:13 But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

(1) Not only will these men be self deceived but will ____________ others.

A few chapters back we studied the blindness that afflicted Israel. Having seen the mighty miracles of God they chose to obey God only when it appeared advantageous to do so. They had a fear of God rather than fearing (an awesome respect) God. Because of this their minds were dulled, eventually becoming spiritually blind or veiled. 2 Cor. 3:14 But their minds were hardened; for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains unlifted, because it is removed in Christ.

(1) It is possible for Israel to not be self-deluded only when they will come to ________________ and accept Jesus as Messiah.

This same blindness comes upon men when they fail to fear God and tremble at His word. Romans 1:21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, or give thanks; but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

(1) These are men who _________ God, but did they hold Him in awesome respect? ____________________.

2 Cor. 3:16-18 but whenever a man turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. [17] Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. [18] But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

(1) What are we able to behold when we have the blindness removed? The _________ of the Lord.

(2) What happens to us when we become doers of the word instead of hearers only? [We] Beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being _________________into the same image

Hebrews 2:1 For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.

(1) What is implied in this passage when it says that "we must pay much closer attention?" ___________________________________________

As we become doers of His word what will happen to us? We will be _____________________ to the mirror image of ______________.

The Guiding light of our Entire Being.

Matthew 6:22-23 "The lamp of the body is the eye; if therefore your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. [23] "But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

(1) Jesus is speaking metaphorically to believers about our ability to see into the kingdom of heaven. If we have created our perception of God in our own image then the ______________ that is in us is greater than even the ____________ of the natural world.

1 John 1:5 And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.

(1) If we are truly in Christ and He is in us then what happens to the darkness?__________________________________________________

Jude 1:12-13 These men are those who are hidden reefs in your love feasts when they feast with you without fear, caring for themselves; clouds without water, carried along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, doubly dead, uprooted; [13] wild waves of the sea, casting up their own shame like foam; wandering stars, for whom the black darkness has been reserved forever.

(1) A special darkness has been reserved for those who claim to be Christians but are without ____________, self-centered, changeable, without the fruit of the Spirit, ________________ dead. To be saved a man must be born of the ___________, natural birth and of the ________________. John 3:5-6 Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. [6] "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Why will the darkness be greater to the Christian actor than to the pagan who has never heard the word? Luke 12:47-48 "And that slave who knew his master's will and did not get ready or act in accord with his will, shall receive many lashes, [48] but the one who did not know it, and committed deeds worthy of a flogging, will receive but few. And from everyone who has been given much shall much be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.

(1) Jesus uses a cultural example concerning slaves, a norm of that day. In verse 48 he brings it home. We in America are without excuse, the word of God is available, teaching is everywhere. You and I have been given _________, therefore _____________ is required.

Psalm 50:16-17 But to the wicked God says, "What right have you to tell of My statutes, And to take My covenant in your mouth? [17] "For you hate discipline, And you cast My words behind you.

(1) How does God define the wicked here? ________________________

(2) They hate discipline and ignore His word, we learned earlier that they are without _______ of the Lord.

Psalm 50:21 "These things you have done, and I kept silence; You thought that I was just like you; I will reprove you, and state the case in order before your eyes.

(1) Into what image did they cast God? _____________________________

Work out your Salvation

2 Peter 1:2-4 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; [3] seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. [4] For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, in order that by them you might become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.

(1) We who serve God, and as we have learned "fear Him and tremble at His word," have been given everything needed to live the Christian life through the true _______________ of God. The veil is removed and we can see clearly.

(2) By His promise, we can become ____________ of the divine nature of God.

Hebrews 5:9 and, once made perfect, he [Jesus] became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him

(1) Jesus, made perfect (complete) becomes the ___________ for our eternal salvation to all who ___________ him.

Philip. 2:12-13 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; [13] for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

(1) Paul says that we are to work out our own _______________. Then he tells us how: it is _______ who is at work in us working His will and for His good pleasure.

Ephes. 4:22-24 that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, [23] and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, [24] and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

(1) Working out our salvation is defined here as being _________ in the spirit of our mind. The work of putting on the new __________ which is in the mirror image of ________________ created in _____________ and holiness of the _____________. We must now teach our bodies, through the power of God's Holy Spirit, now in us, to walk in that righteousness and in the truth of God's word.

Col. 3:10 defines working out our salvation as allowing God to change us. "and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him."

(1) Our new self is being _______________ to resemble ____________.

Remember this change only comes to those who obey his word, that is to say fear God and tremble at his word. A person who fears God will obey even when it appears more advantageous to do otherwise.

Unwavering Fear of God.

As an example of Unwavering fear of God our author brings our attention to Joseph. God appeared to Joseph in a dream, at an early age. Genesis 37:5-10

Then Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him even more. [6] And he said to them, "Please listen to this dream which I have had; [7] for behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and lo, my sheaf rose up and also stood erect; and behold, your sheaves gathered around and bowed down to my sheaf." [8] Then his brothers said to him, "Are you actually going to reign over us? Or are you really going to rule over us?" So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words. [9] Now he had still another dream, and related it to his brothers, and said, "Lo, I have had still another dream; and behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me." [10] And he related it to his father and to his brothers; and his father rebuked him and said to him, "What is this dream that you have had? Shall I and your mother and your brothers actually come to bow ourselves down before you to the ground?"

(1) In these dreams God gives Joseph a vision that he, and not the first born or the succession of older brothers born before him. will become the head of his family, They all understood his dreams interpretation to mean that Joseph would ___________ over them, and they __________ him even more.

Later his father sent Joseph to check on his brothers who were tending the sheep some distance from home. Genesis 37:17

Then the man said, [to Joseph] "They have moved from here; for I heard them say, 'Let us go to Dothan.' " So Joseph went after his brothers and found them at Dothan. Genesis 37:19-20 And they said to one another, "Here comes this dreamer! [20] "Now then, come and let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits; and we will say, 'A wild beast devoured him.' Then let us see what will become of his dreams!"

(1) The brothers either didn't believe the dream came from God or they didn't _________ God.

Genesis 37:28 Then some Midianite traders passed by, so they pulled him up and lifted Joseph out of the pit, and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver. Thus they brought Joseph into Egypt.

(1) Joseph, who believed that God had a magnificent plan for his life, was sold into slavery. At this point would you and I be discouraged and begin to whine at God? ________. His descendants, the newly delivered, nation of Israel did; within hours of being delivered from enslavement, as they stood at the Red Sea.

Genesis 39:5 And it came about that from the time he made him overseer in his house, and over all that he owned, the Lord blessed the Egyptian's house on account of Joseph; thus the Lord's blessing was upon all that he owned, in the house and in the field.

(1) Did God forget about Joseph? ______

Is there evidence that Joseph still "feared God" after ten years of enslavement. Genesis 39:7 And it came about after these events that his master's wife looked with desire at Joseph, and she said, "Lie with me." Genesis 39:9 "There is no one greater in this house than I, and he has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do this great evil, and sin against God?"

(1) Even after all these years of living in a pagan culture, did Joseph fear God or her husband, Potiphar? _____________________.

Joseph's obedience to God, landed him in prison. Genesis 39:20-21

So Joseph's master took him and put him into the jail, the place where the king's prisoners were confined; and he was there in the jail. [21] But the Lord was with Joseph and extended kindness to him, and gave him favor in the sight of the chief jailer.

(1) Joseph continued to serve God, even in prison. We live in such a quick fix society would we, if we were in the same situation as Joseph- sold as a slave, unjustly imprisoned-continue to faithfully serve the Lord?_____

Complaining: The Transformation-stopper

Joseph's descendants did not follow in the foot steps of their Patriarch progenitor. Whenever they sensed things not going according to their perception of how things should go, they whined and complained. Exodus 16:8 And Moses said, "This will happen when the Lord gives you meat to eat in the evening, and bread to the full in the morning; for the Lord hears your grumblings which you grumble against Him. And what are we? Your grumblings are not against us but against the Lord."

(1) When trials come our way do we ask "Lord, what good things are you trying to teach me or accomplish in my life, or are we like the Israelites and grumble? __________________.

God warns us through Paul's writing in Philip. 2:12-14 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; [13] for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. [14] Do all things without grumbling or disputing; and He reminds us in Romans 8:28, . . . we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

(1) Unlike the Israelites we must not forget that God is at _________ in us.

(2) No matter how things appear to our minds, God causes ____ things to work together for our _______ when we love God. To those He loves He has called. Romans 8:30b-31 . . . and whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. [31] What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?

Romans 8:32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?

(1) This speaks of God's great love for us, for according to II Cor. 5:19, God was in Christ that day on the cross reconciling us to Himself. With that kind of love, would he ever abandon us?__________________

Proverbs 14:27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, That one may avoid the snares of death.

(1) The fear of the Lord is a _______________ of ___________. It teaches us to avoid the snares of __________.

Proverbs 15:33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction for wisdom, And before honor comes humility. This wisdom, we are told is from Christ. But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, 1 Cor. 1:30

(1) ____________________ is the instruction for wisdom

And Daniel 12:3 has this to say about the wise "And those who have insight [the wise] will shine brightly like the brightness of the expanse of heaven, and those who lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.

(1) Is God pleased with those who are wise and live in fear of the lord? ______

Genesis 41:14-16 Then Pharaoh sent and called for Joseph, and they hurriedly brought him out of the dungeon; and when he had shaved himself and changed his clothes, he came to Pharaoh. [15] And Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I have had a dream, but no one can interpret it; and I have heard it said about you, that when you hear a dream you can interpret it." [16] Joseph then answered Pharaoh, saying, "It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh a favorable answer."

(1) Even after years of slavery and prison, Joseph is still yielded to God, for when he could have assumed the credit for himself, possibly changing his circumstance, he feared and trusted God saying It is not in me;______ will give Pharaoh a favorable answer."

Genesis 41:25 Now Joseph said to Pharaoh, "Pharaoh's dreams are one and the same; God has told to Pharaoh what He is about to do.

(1) Joseph gives _________ the glory and respect.

Genesis 41:28-32 "It is as I have spoken to Pharaoh: God has shown to Pharaoh what He is about to do. [29] "Behold, seven years of great abundance are coming in all the land of Egypt; [30] and after them seven years of famine will come, and all the abundance will be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine will ravage the land. [31] "So the abundance will be unknown in the land because of that subsequent famine; for it will be very severe. [32] "Now as for the repeating of the dream to Pharaoh twice, it means that the matter is determined by God, and God will quickly bring it about. Genesis 41:38-41 Then Pharaoh said to his servants, "Can we find a man like this, in whom is a divine spirit?" [39] So Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Since God has informed you of all this, there is no one so discerning and wise as you are. [40] "You shall be over my house, and according to your command all my people shall do homage; only in the throne I will be greater than you." [41] And Pharaoh said to Joseph, "See I have set you over all the land of Egypt."

(1) Did God honor Joseph's faithfulness? ___________. He __________ Joseph over all of ____________.

Mr Bevere troubles, as should you and I, over the lack of respect our nation and the media has for the Church. The root cause appears to be a lack of fear of the Lord and respect for the authority of the word of God-a failure on our part to actively demonstrate "who is in charge."

Shining Forth His Glory.

As with Joseph, Job was one who suffered greatly, was an overcomer and was blessed by God.

Job 1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job, and that man was blameless, upright, fearing God, and turning away from evil.

(1) Job was a man who ___________ God.

Satan challenged Job's faith in God claiming his "fear" was only because God had so blessed him materially and physically. In those areas Job was sadistically attacked Job 1:14-19 that a messenger came to Job and said, "The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them, [15] and the Sabeans attacked and took them. They also slew the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you." [16] While he was still speaking, another also came and said, "The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you." [17] While he was still speaking, another also came and said, "The Chaldeans formed three bands and made a raid on the camels and took them and slew the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you." [18] While he was still speaking, another also came and said, "Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house, [19] and behold, a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people and they died; and I alone have escaped to tell you."

(1) In one day Job lost his _________ and ___________ and __________ and __________, his _____________ and all of the ____________ that tended to these things.

Job 1:22 Through all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God.

(1) Did Job still respect and hold God in awe? _______________

As if that wasn't proof enough in Job 2:7 we are told, "Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head."

Job 2:10b . . . In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

(1) Was this enough to turn Job? _______ How would you and I hold up under this kind of adversity? ______________.

Job was an over-comer and God blessed him. God's Glory indeed shone through Job. And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job when he prayed for his friends, and the Lord increased all that Job had twofold. Job 42:10

(1) While still in affliction Job demonstrated that he yet feared God. When did God restore two fold unto Job? After Job ____________ for his friends.

Adversity is ahead of us and God's word tells us if we will tenaciously hold on to Him, fearing Him in obedience to His word, "trembling", we will be over-comers and be blessed by Him.

Rev. 2:7 'He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of God.'

(1) What does this passage promise to an over-comer? ________________

Rev. 2:10-11 'Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days.
