Love

Why are we here?

What is our purpose on this ancient, decaying rock?
Where is God?
Who Is God?
Is There A God?

I feel that the answer to these questions is self-evident.   How many of us have ever truly been in love.  I speak not merely of Eros.  How many of us have felt  unconditional love for/from someone.  There is a warmth, an energy that can not be defined.   A feeling of strength and comfort. This feeling is unlike any other experience known to our species.  Volumes of prose,  poetry and drama have been written trying to explain or define this feeling common to us all.   The capacity to love is the dominant component in our social framework.  In fact it seems to be our greatest unfulfilled human potential.  Is it possible to love "too much", to "run out" of love?

Can we feel "the good" in what we do?  Can we open our eyes to the possibility that God is acting through us to give hope to a hopeless world.  How frequently do we ask the question "Where is God to end all of this suffering?" The answer is that he is in us all. If we really want to end "the suffering", then it is we who must choose to end it.   Of course this forces the issue of how badly do we really want to end the suffering,  for after all it is we who control the resolution.   This unconditional Love we give to each other can best be defined as God living in us.

Do we truly want the pain that exists in this world to end?  Are We ready to commit to ending this?  If we answer yes to this question, then we must make the decision to get up and resolve to end the torment of our society.

How often has God been described in terms such as: Benevolent, Caring, Wise, Wrathful, Forgiving?  Are these not also traits ascribed to our species.  Can we see in ourselves the reality that we have been given these awesome gifts.   More importantly do we share these gifts with those in our lives.  Do we set limits on the God we seek by setting limits on His Power?

Do we limit his love because of our audience.  Do we give the Gift only to people we feel deserve it.   Does Love know any boundaries? Do demographics affect the level of Love that we can give.  Do we not all love, regardless of  Ethnicity, Gender, Orientation, Disability, Age, Geo-Political Locale, Socio-Economic Status or Criminal Record.  I feel that if we truly want to understand the power that God has given us, we must be able to give freely.  God lives within us all,  If we are willing to deny one, then we are in fact denying all.

Frequently in our society "People of Faith" are heard to make exclusionary comments regarding groups of people.  I would hope that they see that they building walls between themselves and the God they seek.  When we condemn people for the decisions that they make as being "un-Godly",  we are condemning God ourselves. The challenges that face each individual are unique based on their own life history.    Embracing the diversity of experience allows for greater knowledge for which to understand and reach out to even more people.  Judgment is a condition that limits our capacity to Love or to "know" God.

Similarly How could any war be called "Holy" if the goal is anything other than reaching out to those in need of hope.   With every life we end in His name we are, in fact, destroying the very thing for which we fight.  "They're beliefs are wrong" is a common justification for conflict. How can love be wrong?  Different perhaps, then let us learn and continue to grow through our differences.

Can we as individuals risk opening ourselves up,  and reaching out to those in need?  Can we believe in our own capacity to loved and be loved? Can we look for beauty in everyone as well as everything.  Can we feel the peace that comes with comforting our neighbor, as well as ourselves. Can we believe in ourselves to make this happen?

The society of  which I earlier spoke is not a city, county, state, nation our global alliance. This is a society of one.  Each person must challenge themselves to define for themselves the extent to which they are willing to commit to touching the lives of people.

We, are the answer to the question.  Open your eyes.  God lives within us all.
