Walking Tours of Rome

View of the Eternal City from the dome of St. Peter's Basilica

All roads lead to Rome! This could be because the Romans built the roads. The ancient Romans were famous road-builders, and today their ability to navigate these roads is equally famous.

Police officer directs traffic at Rome's Piazza Venezia. After a 5 hour shift, she will have breathed the equivalent of 2.1 packs of cigarettes. The city has notorious traffic problems. Mechanized vehicles of every sort flood Roman streets. There is no such thing as a "line" of cars or a "lane" of traffic. Roman drivers easily navigate their way through this "ordered chaos" avoiding accidents. In recent years the problems only get worse. It has been estimated that seven thousand new cars come into circulation every month!

Walking has always been the best way to explore Rome, where each crooked street and narrow alley is so filled with historic and artistic treasure that otherwise half of what is to be seen would be missed.

For example, this delightful fountain would be missed by the hurried traveler. Such wonderful discoveries await the visitor who is willing to take the time and LOOK.

Enjoy these tours. Whether you have been to Rome many times or never, these tours will help you to experience the truth of the Italian expression "Roma, non basta una vita" (Rome, one life is not enough)!
