Pholus' Fate

After the remaining fled, Pholus left from the cave and saw a dead body. " Why did he leave from life on account of such a light wound? What is the cause?" The Centaur extracted the arrow out from the wound. It slipped from his hand and it wounded his foot. That immediately he felt a grave pain through all his limbs, and after a short time he had died by means of the poison. Soon Hercules, who had killed the remaining centaurs, returned to the cave and with great grief saw the dead Pholus. With many tears, he buried his friend's body. Thereafter he returned into the cave, and drank the other cups of wine; then he submitted himself weary to sleep.
