Then in truth Hercules was sent to Erytheam Island and was ordered to bring back Geryon's oxen. The thing was difficult enough because and the oxen were guarded by Eurytion, a two headed dog. However, Geryon himself had a horrible sight; three bodies had been united with each other. Hercules although he knew it was great danger, then assumed negotiation. He made a journey across many lands and then arrived at this part of Africa which was located from Europe. There relying on both shores, because Europe was divided form Africa, stationed columns, which afterwards were called the Pillars of Hercules.
Hercules remaining until this, he received great inconvenience from the heat of the sun. Finally moved with anger, he aimed his bow and shot the sun with arrows. The sun then admired by the brave man and gave a golden ship. Hercules received this gift happily, because no one in this region was able to discover the ship. The ship was launched and after a short time he came to the island. After he learned the place where the oxen were living from inhabitants, immediately he proceeded in this part, and demanded the oxen from King Geryon. Because however he was not able to trade this, Hercules immediately killed Eurytion and the King Geryon himself. Then he decided to force back the oxen through Spain and Liguria.
And Ligurens, while he made a journey for their borders, gathered great concern and prevented them from advancing long. He lost almost all hope for safety, but Jupiter sent down an enormous shower of stone from the sky and a great number of Ligures were killed.
After Ligures were overcome by this just now, Hercules proceeded quickly and after a few days he arrived to the Alps. To cross these was a greatly difficult thing. In this region he was not able to come upon neither grain nor food. Getting grain was Herc's great concern and he got food together and , on the contrary to all's opinion, the oxen were lead across into Italy.
By a short time he came to the Tiberus River. Not far from the river was a cave in which Cacus, a horrible monster, then lived. While Hercules slept, Cacus seized four oxen. The oxen were dragged by their tails into the cave, Hercules then discovered this because one from the oxen who otherwise lived began to bellow and they who were in the cave returned the bellow. After the horrible monster was killed by Hercules, he left this cave with all the oxen.
