Welcome to the Garden

Meditation

Meditation or "mokusoo" in Japanese, is a way of becoming at one with yourself and the rest of the world. The mere act of sitting and doing nothing, centering your thoughts on nothing, is one of the best ways to relieve stress, better blood circulation, reducing tensions, and finding peace with yourself and everything else.

Tips on Meditation

1. Find a quiet place away from the distractions of day-to-day life.

2. Make sure you have alloted yourself plenty of time.

3. Relax as much as possible. Sit in a comfortable position. You may even lay down if you wish. Just don't get so comfortable that you doze off!

4. Do not be dissapointed if you do not acheive the results you were expecting the first few times. Meditation, like anything else, takes practice. The more you do it, the better you get at it.

Types of Meditation

Breath Counting

1. Find a quiet place away from the distractions of everyday life.

2. Assume a comfortable position. You may even lay down if you'd like. Just

don't get so comfortable that you doze off.

3. RELAX RELAX RELAX

4. Begin to breath deeply. Fill your lungs with each breath you take. Breath
Breath from your center. Your center is located just below the naval. Inhale slowly.

5. As you become accustomed to the breathing, begin to count your breaths. As you inhale, mentally say, "one". As you exhale, say the word "and" or "relax" to yourself.Think only of counting the breaths.

Tips on Breath Counting

Don't try to count over five breaths. This can lead to you losing concentration on the breathing itself and concentrating on what number is next. I very seldom count over three. Get into this, as any meditaion, gradualy. I recomend about 5-10 minutes the first week with no more than 4 sessions that week. As you get better, increase the time you spend in meditation and the times you do it during the week.
If you chose the word "relax" during exhaling then attempt to relax your body even more each time you say it.
