The School Council forms a very important part of the school's administrative structure. Every school in Malta is required to form its Council. This is made up of eight members. By default, the Head of School is the Secretary and Treasurer of the Council. The President is appointed directly by the Minister of Education. The other six members are elected to the council, three from amongst the pupils' parents and three from amongst the teachers. |
Elections for the six members are held at the beginning of each scholastic year. The Council meets at least once every month on a regular basis. An agenda is issued to the members prior to each meeting and detailed minutes of every meeting are kept. One of the very important jobs of the School Council is fund-raising. There is so much that any school can do with a bigger budget. The School Council has been very successful in organising activities which enabled the school to purchase much needed equipment and resources. Fund-raising is but one of the jobs of the School Council. School policy is discussed and amended when necessary and educational discussion meetings for parents are regularly organised.
