Grab something to drink cuz I'm at it again.
The reason I believe in freedom of religion so much was caused by the christian church. Not the church as a whole but one in specific. I had a bad time with them and they were not there when I needed them, in essence they turned their backs on me.
Yes I still believe in God. Some Wiccans believe in the One above the God and Goddess. I can't speak for all since I am but one. The books are vague on it and I think it's a personal choice. But I believe.
I have spent most of my life searching, searching for something. Some inner voice to guide me. I had a friend who was a Wiccan High Priestess and she showed me my first book. I had found that something. It opened my mind, my heart and my soul to the healing that I needed.
But I can't tell anyone about it, I'm still in the proverbial "broom closet". My immediate family knows and a tiny tight group of friends that I trust with my life know. And you know, all of you know.
This is my place to speak about it and to enjoy my freedom. I believe in this freedom with all that I am. I have seen a couple of things done to people who believe as I do and it's not pretty. The hate mail and the strange things showing up in yards and the main reason I'm still in the closet. My Kids. I've seen many stories about Wiccans whose children have been taken from them due to ignorance. Ignorance about who we are and what we believe in.
We are just people, just like YOU! We look like you, we talk like you and we have lives and loves just like you. We cry, laugh, sing and have fun like you. We clean the house, fix the car and mow the yard, just like you.
And I would bet that you have seen us, talked to us, socialised with us and maybe even had a meal with us.
The only difference is that we revere Nature, with all that we are. I'm going to quote a Vulcan again, this time Spock. "Sometimes the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one".
But in our case we ARE the many and we ARE the one.
I believe that we are part of the divine and it is a part of us. Each of us carries that tiny spark that connects us to the rest of the Universe.
In order for us to have total freedom of religion we have to learn to tolerate, moderate and accept. I am not saying that you HAVE to accept me. You don't. It would hurt if you didn't but it is not necessary to my life. The only one who has to truly accept me is ME! If I can't accept myself and love myself how could I expect anyone else to?
I'm waiting for the day when all the believers in the One will not look down on someone because their One is not named the same.
The One has many names, God, Jehovah, Buddha, Krishna, Yahwe and the name doesn't matter, nor does the way you get to the One. True freedom of religion will come when the names don't mean anything. When ALL are accepted as believers.
May you walk in Light, Love and Laughter my friends!
