Blimps

Hi, our names are Arianna & Ari were doing a report on blimps keep on reading our  report & learn more about blimps.  We picked this topic because we didn’t know munch about them so we thought that we could do a report about them.  Now we can teach our moms some stuff about blimps because she doesn't know anything about them.  After we were done with the report this is all we learned.

                            The history of blimps
The first blimp flight was made on November 21,1783 in France.
In 1931 Zeppelin's blimp went as high as 51,775 feet high.  One of the blimps have carried up to 1,553 but the most was 10,000 passengers.  A man named Ferdinand Zeppelin made blimps bigger than two football fields.  During the World war 1 & world war 2 the states that used them were France,Great Britain, & the United States.  Before airplanes were invented they used blimps to use in war.  In1917 the Germans made blimps to bomb England. The Zeppelin blimps bombed England but the bombs were two small so they didn’t do any damage.   So when airplanes were invented they stopped using blimps because they could carry bigger bombs.  During world war 1 &2 they would use blimps to spot their enemies on water or on land.

              Good year Blimp
We all know what the Goodyear blimp looks like right.  Well we learned that the Goodyear blimp is 192 feet long, 60 feet high, & 150 pounds.  The Goodyear blimp can go up to 35 M.P.H. or 55 M.P.H.  The Goodyear blimp can only carry 5 people in the gondola.  Also the Goodyear blimp cost $5 million dollars each. The Goodyear blimp was named “Columbia” but now it’s
called “The Eagle”.  The Goodyear company made 100 blimps for the navy to use in world war 2.

                         Hydenberg Disaster

The Hydenberg was built by Ferdinand Zeppelin.  On May 6,1937 the Hydenberg crashed & burned to bits. The Hydenberg was the worst blimp disaster.  When the Hydenberg crashed 35 people were killed including one of the ground crew members.  That was the last time they used blimps to carry people.  They stopped using hydrogen to fill blimps after they heard what happened to the hydenberg.  Millions of people have gone on blimps without an injury after the Hydenberg crashed.

                                All About Blimps

Did you know that blimps have a busy schedule? They have 10 flights a day.  Each flight takes about 45 minutes.  Blimps aren’t always in town they can sometimes be in other cities or at sporting events.  long ago blimps were for people who liked to travel slow.  If you’ve been on a blimp they might be noisy but would you rather be on a plane that isn't very safe but is very quiet or on a blimp that is loud & safe.  I think that everyone would probably pick the blimp.  Now blimps are used for advertisement also for people or packages.  Blimps can go up to 1,000 feet or 5,000 feet high.  Out of all the parts on the blimp the envelope is the hardest thing to make.  If you don’t know what the envelope is it’s the big thing that's on top of were the pilot rides.  The envelope is so big that the workers have to use bikes to get to the other side of the blimp.
Thank you for your cooperation!

This is one of our pictures that we really liked while we were on the internet.  As you can see the blimp is the same size as the boat.  We don’t know what kind of boat it is but the important thing is that we know that it’s bigger than the boat & plane.  If you would like to see it log on to this web site
