May 5, 1998

My Sergeant Major just walked in and asked me if I pray. I said yes, since I do, in a pagan sort of way. He said someone listened, and that my orders to Korea got deleted. Which means I won't be expected to leave my daughter for a year, which is absolutely the best news I've heard all year. Quite frankly, I was getting a little nervous about the prospect of being a civilian this year -- my ducks aren't exactly in a row, financially speaking, and I've discovered how out-of-reach health insurance can be as a civilian.
Now, I just have to wait and see where I end up. I might stay here in Georgia for the rest of my enlistment, but it's unlikely. Probably I will have to extend or re-enlist for Germany, but that won't be so bad -- my daughter can come with me, and I'll probably never get a chance to go to Europe otherwise.
I also got a phone call this morning from an officer in my ex's unit -- working in personnel, I have a few connections. He told me what Chris was getting kicked out for -- first he got busted by the MPs driving a motorcycle around in the barracks parking lot drunk, and without a helmet (they always throw those little things in there, don't they? Like they'll bust you for drug trafficking and throw something in there about how you never paid taxes on that income. Um, okay... and you'll do 20 years for tax evasion and only 4 for trafficking....) THEN when Chris was on extra duty as a punishment for the first stunt, he reported drunk. So they kicking him out for having a pattern of being a big loser, basically.
Anyway, I've added some poetry to my webpage that I hope any readers enjoy, if you've made it this far through my self-absorbed, sarcastic rambling. It's at the end of the links. Back to the Front Page...
