A Parent/Child Information Page
Knowing what kids know and helping them know more is a very useful parent concern.
We want to be of help with this, so provide the following suggestions.
Many children lack money knowledge but that doesn't mean they don't know what money is for!! Some of the key findings of the Nuveen KidSense Money survey in 1999 revealed the following:
- 50% of the children polled said they had not been taught much about money facts.
- 33% of these kids, 12-17 years, were saving only in piggy banks
- 13% did not know what their savings were used for.
- When asked about how much money they would bother saving, 58% stated only a dollar or more.
- Only 26% had enough stock market awareness to describe an "up market" as like a bull.
- 60% stated they did not receive an allowance or any money of their own to handle.
- 65% of the kids related they expect to have more money thant their parents.
- More boys said they would save money, more girls related they would spend what they had.
