NSA - Kansas City Chapter

Meeting information:

Our meetings are held on a very informal basis and provide an excellent way to discuss the many aspects of stuttering, share the experiences and challenges we have all faced in our everyday lives and, most notably, just be open about our speech.

The meetings typically begin with a general round of introductions if new members or guests are present.  This provides an opportunity for the participants to share the successes we've had since the last meeting, what challenges were presented and what we continue to learn from our experiences.

After a short social break and refreshments, the second part of the meeting begins.  This part is led by a volunteer facilitator who selects an activity or topic for discussion.  Past topics have covered a wide range of subjects related to stuttering and have included our attitudes and acceptance of stuttering, therapy overviews, fluency enhancing techniques, how stuttering affects personal relationships and a host of other interesting topics.

All participation is voluntary and we encourage each individual to participate at a level that is comfortable for them.  Some meetings include visits by graduate level students of speech pathology from local universities, speech-language pathologists and others who have an interest and/or insights on stuttering.
