WW I or WW II Wrap Up Project (25 marks)

Choose either World War One or World War Two and do one of the following:

1) Draw a propaganda poster encouraging Canadians to do one of the following:

a) enlist to fight in WW I or WW II

b) support the war effort by buying Victory War Bonds or War Stamps

c) support the war effort by rationing food to free up supplies for the troops

Size requirements: minimum: 8.5 in. by 11 in. (i.e. letter size paper)

maximum: 8.5 in. by 14 in. (i.e. legal size paper)

Note: The reason for the size restrictions is that your posters will be scanned and published on the internet for the world to see.

Marking Criteria:

- *originality*

- neatness and attractiveness

- a catchy slogan

Examples of actual war propaganda posters (do not copy)

2) Write a rhyming poem (minimum 12 lines) incorporating events and vocabulary from our study of World War One or World War Two. You will also present the poem to the class and it will be published on the internet, so it needs to be neatly typed.

Marking Criteria:

- *originality*

- use of events and vocabulary from our study of WW I or WW II

- at least twelve lines long and rhyming

- communication skills when presenting to the class

3) Construct a serious "comic" strip showing the six underlying causes of World War One and the assassination of the Archduke Francis Ferdinand or the underlying and immediate causes of World War Two

Size requirements: minimum: 8.5 in. by 11 in. (i.e. letter size paper)

maximum: 8.5 in. by 14 in. (i.e. legal size paper)

- underlying and immediate causes shown

4) Write a 30 second to 45 second radio commercial encouraging Canadians to support the war effort (either WW I or WW II), for example, by enlisting to fight, or supporting the war effort by buying Victory War Bonds or rationing food to free up supplies for the troops. Then tape record the commercial, perhaps incorporating music and sound effects,and later play it for the class.

Marking Criteria:

- *originality*

- addressing three ways Canadians can support the war effort

- is it convincing?
