Logan stretched and panicked when he reached out and came in contact
with nothing but cold sheets. He sat up quickly, only relaxing when
he
caught sight of his lover standing in front of the window. Logan let
out
a sigh of relief. He'd been afraid that Remy had run again.
"Whatcha doing?"
"Thinkin', cher."
Logan wanted to get up and go pull the younger man into his arms but
he
kept himself still. Remy's body language told him that his embrace
wouldn't be welcomed just then. Leaning back against the headboard,
Logan waited and watched. "About what?"
"De tings you said. About home."
"It was the truth, Remy. We want ya back. All of us."
"Mais Sinister......"
"I told ya, kid. We all make mistakes. You ain't the first one to be
deceived by Sinister or someone like him."
"Mais Warren said......"
Logan smirked. Oh yeah, Warren had said a lot of shit. But he had
finally realized that all his reasons for hating Remy could be turned
back on him. "Wings realized that he's got no room to talk after his
deal with Apocalypse. He understands a lot more then he used to."
"Rogue?"
The smirk disappeared. "Rogue.....won't be a problem. She took off a
couple months ago. Too many memories, too many powers. She's changed,
Remy. Rogue's not the girl she was anymore."
"Saw dat coming, cher. Tried to help her mais......."
"But she didn't want your help. Yeah, we got the same garbage when we
tried."
Remy was silent for a minute but the tension didn't leave his body.
"What else, Remy?"
"Storm. She......"
"She loves ya, kid. You're like a brother to her and ya know it. Sure,
she was angry and hurt at first, but now she knows the truth. We all
do.
It wasn't your fault, Remy."
"I got dem killed."
"No, you were deceived. You didn't know what was going to happen."
Remy turned and Logan's heart clenched in his chest. The tears were
running down the younger man's face. "Come here, Gumbo."
Remy only hesitated a moment before he crawled into bed and curled up
against his lover. Logan's arms wrapped around the shaking Cajun and
pulled him closer. They laid like that with only the sounds of Remy's
sobs echoing through the room.
Logan woke again, this time with his arms full of Cajun. He smiled as
he
kissed the younger man's hair. For the first time since this whole
mess
began, Logan felt that he had gotten through to Remy. The fact that
his
lover was still there was a good sign.
"Remy, we should get going."
Remy stretched lazily and Logan couldn't keep from caressing his hand
up
and down his lover's back. "Going, cher?"
"Home, Remy. It's time to go home."
Logan noticed the slight tensing. "I'll be with ya every step, baby.
You can do this."
Remy raised his eyes to his lover's and hesitantly nodded. "I can do
dis. Dey're my family, oui?"
"Yeah, Cajun, the whole lot of 'em. How lucky can one guy be?"
Logan smirked at the look on Remy's face then forced himself out of
bed.
"I'm going to grab a shower. You can join me if ya want."
"I will. In a minute."
"Ok."
Logan was a bit reluctant to leave but he had to trust that Remy
wouldn't run anymore. With a huge stretch, he walked into the bathroom.
Remy watched his lover leave then listened to the shower. He closed
his
eyes against the burning tears. It was all too much to believe. He
was
going home again. Not to New Orleans, but to the only other place that
had ever felt like a home. And, if he believed Logan, to people who
thought of him as part of the family.
If it was true, and he desperately hoped it was, then Logan was right.
He was a lucky guy.
He stood and looked to the door then shook his head. No more running.
Whatever happened, he had to face his past. Yanking off the sweat pants,
he headed into the bathroom to join his lover. If nothing else good
came
of going home, at least he was back with Logan. That would make anything
else bearable.
Pasting a smile on his face, he stepped into the shower and into Logan's
strong arms. And for the first time in months, the loneliness and pain
disappeared.
