The unuttered word, by H. Av.

Just a sound. That's enough to remind me of her
in the long cricket-hiss of the night
in the rush of car-engines and smoke;

Just a laughter she heard by the sidewalk
Just a sigh she caught in a falling tree
are enough to remind her of me.

our stories run parallel in letters
that we send in a moment of haste
not foreseeing the hurt on the face of the other

"..You'll come back?.."
We halt. Will the words really be there?
But no. Just a friendly reminder: "I'm here.-

We can talk anytime you like". and I shudder;
Just a cry to remind me of bad old days
Just a shout to remind me of curses and blames
and the fear I still hold, to come back - and to lose.

sometimes I feel that I would.. If I dared:
from afar she helps me hold my silence
and the bitter taste of the unuttered word.
