Silent as a whisper, faint as the light
The moon gives on this silent night.
Slow an eye opens revealing the path;
"Revenge not forgotten" says deadly wrath.
The blood dark power flows free in wind
A voice as wild; the prey is pinned.
Voracious feed on the innocent here,
Pirate's gold earring tossed to a seer.
"Tell me" asks vermin to fox so alight,
"Why does predator lurk in the night?"
The fox seer stands, cunning and swift
Removing a mask, unsheathing a gift.
And so the tale ends of nightmare and stealth
All for the greed of a weasel's self.
You ask for a moral; I give it to you!
It ain't what's in the dream, its who…
The Ten Ships of Malycon City****
A stern warning to you,
As you sail the high seas,
Watch for the island
Of jungle and trees.
Steer far from that place!
Flee! Give it a wide berth!
For evil resides there:
Vermin, scum o' the earth!
But when the gong sounds, the drum beats,
The tide has risen high!
The ten ships of Malycon City
O'er the waters will fly!
The air screams paster her ears,
As she stands at the bow,
The wind strikes the sails,
A chilling sound, long and hollow.
The gale cries its message
To all beasts, near and far:
The Deathwind rides the storm,
Geared up and ready for war!
As the water churns and rolls
The ship plows through the waves,
Cuting like a keen-edged sword,
Its own path, it paves.
Foam and fire roar from its sides,
As the bleeding sun turns it red,
The Bloodspray sails through its namesake,
Life blood of goodbeasts dead.
As the ship sails ahead
Near the jutting coral bed,
The reef becomes alight,
Glowing a luminous, unearthly red.
A halo of fire forms,
Lava 'neath the water glows,
The Flamecoral sets the sea afire,
Molten rock behind it flows.
The waves leap and thrash
In a tortured creature's throes,
Its hull cutting the water,
Throwing the sea up at its bows.
Water lashes by its sides,
Spray stinging as it touches.
The sea churns as the Foamwhip,
Through the water rushes.
The ship sails fast
Through the inky black waters,
Straight as an arrow shaft,
Its course never alters.
As the Fyrewake passes
It leaves behind its name:
A score as deep as a brand,
A straight trail of flame.
Fire roars 'neath the waters,
But dark is the sea
As the ship sails in the blackness
the eye cannot see.
Twix't the spires of rock,
Ships to a death they send,
Yet the Blackreef sails without fear,
While others meet their end.
The waters churn
Below this ship's hull,
Sound fills the world,
Like thunder: rumbling and dull.
All underwater hears
The sound of its passing.
Even in the Bubbleflash's wake,
The echo is still resounding.
The ship finally comes,
But it's none you've ever seen.
Looming, bearing down on you,
The monster from a haunted dream.
Devil of Hellgates,
Lord of the flies,
As the Nightmare of nightmares passes,
You'll never dare close your eyes!
The ship bears down on you,
The mast towering up high,
So tall, that the crow's nest
Has scraped the sky.
Or maybe, it has gone past that,
And touched the stars and moon?
One never fully knows the Doomsails,
Except as a bearer of doom.
The last ship! It comes,
Riding with the breeze,
The spawn o' the ocean,
It has sailed the seven seas.
Terrorizing the waves from near to far,
Bringing destruction wherever it goes,
Wherever the Oceansword sails to,
Death alongside its hulls flows.
Once again: Flee!
All creatures, large and small!
Never stand against Malycon City,
We spare nobeast at all!!!
A rousing poem by Juniper-*****
The Corsair War Chant
Our swords ar' lifted, bows raised up high,
We throw our 'eads back, our voices shake th' sky,
As we scream our bonechillin', terrifyin' warcry:
"Better run fast, our else you'll die!"
Aye, us'n corsairs, th' scum o' the earth,
We'll steal anythin' that's has a buck's worth.
Flee fast an' give a wide berth,
If not: be assured, at ar' blades you'll writhe!
Yea, all booty an' treasure we'll take,
We'll kill all in sight jest fer killin's sake,
While trussed-up slaves watch, their knees a-quake,
Death an' destruction flow in arr' wake!
Bilge o'er th' waves, we've sailed th' high seas,
Plunderin' and pillagin', killin' as we please,
Sittin' on gold, an' livin' at ease,
Ho, goodbeasts we've brought t' bended knees!
So when ye 'ear us, let terror run thr'our 'eart!
We come like th' shadows, vermin o' the dark.
You'll never know when we strike or where we'll embark,
You'll be dead a'fore ye know it: our blades ne'er miss th' mark!
When it comes t' siege, or paw-to-paw,
We'll kill ya on th' spot, and go lookin' fer more.
T'the far corners o' Mossflower rings wid' our roar:
"Dare challenge th' vermin? We're all hungerin' fer war!!!!"
A great poem from Juniper-*****
The Foxes' Code
Trust nobeast ever,
But work for both sides.
Seal the pact, make the money
Before they find out your lies.
Gain warlords' trust,
Do them this favor and deed:
Bring them to their doom,
The warlord's greed.
Don't settle for nothing,
Take the best pick,
Get to the booty,
Before others, quick!
Side on all sides,
But take no allie or friend,
A fox follows himself,
The others, to the end.
Sly and cunning,
Minds sharp and fast.
Others use brute power,
They will hardly last.
The sword is powerful,
It can cut down many.
But the tongue is sharper,
It kills with no blood.
Another poem from Juniper-*****
The Corsair's Lament
The seas growl, the winds howl
And rain comes pelting down,
Lighting flashes, thunder crashes,
Spray flies all around.
O'er my tail I trip, my feet slip,
And I skid to the side of the deck.
Bruised and battered, spirit shattered,
Onto my feet I scramble back.
The world is gray made worse by spray
And I can't see past my nose.
My shirt is soaked through and my fur is too,
I'm shivering right down to my toes.
The wind cruelly whips, the bow rises and dips,
The world fills with a tremendous roaring,
And when I turn to see: it's a giant tsunami!
O'er the ship, huge waves come pouring.
The deck's slick from rain and I slip again,
Best to scrambled around on all fours,
I call to my mates, but "Oh, Hellgates!"
They've deserted and closed the doors!
I might be a mad rat, but oh no! That
Is the real torturous life of a corsair!
You think the waves we're riding and wind we're flying
Are like midsummer, calm and fair?
So if...
Y'like being swept off your feet,
An' getting lost in a sleet,
An' slippin' and slidin' all around.
Go ahead and try! I feel best high 'n' dry,
Tramping all day on solid ground!
The Great Battle of Salamandastron-****
- Exact account from a fox, one of the horde of Corpsemakers, deceased during the climbing assault on the fire mountain, from the book Salamandastron
A fox am I, a vile cur,
One of the horde of Corpsemakers,
Vermin battling against Salamandastron,
A clash of warlords, powerful and strong.
Tonight, we'll be marching to war quite soon,
'Neath the cover of darkness, when there's no moon.
Tonight I am ready, with my only weapon,
A deadly cutlass, from which goodbeasts fell down.
I stand in the ranks, one of the horde's great might,
I am assured: we'll defeat goodbeasts tonight!
Something is passed: a resin-soaked torch,
A burning one comes: the flames alight and scorch.
We are ready! Our voices raise in a bellow,
Weapon brandished, my lungs scream: Fer-ah-go!!!
Onward we march, my torch held hgih,
On to Salamandastron, where the accursed goodbeasts lie!
And there we parade in front, torches a-flicker,
Making the Corpsemakers seem scores bigger.
And: as soon as it started, my torch is put out,
ATTACK! WE rush forward with a great shout!
The cliffs of the mountain rise sheer, unclimbable,
But I have claws, scaling seems possible.
Slipping and scrabbling, I dig in with all my claws,
The order from my leader floats up: don't fail!
We have to reach the top and from there enter the mountain,
Break the defense, open the gates, and vermin'll flood in!
I reach a high ledge and pause to take a breather,
And I see in front of me, clothed in rags, a stranger!
Who is he? A goodbeast or vermin there?
He comes towards me and I gasp in horror: a hare!
I swing my cutlass but it is to no avail,
He lashes out a leg, and I fly into the air with a wail!
Screaming a vile curse at him with my last breath,
As I plunge, earthwards, to my certain death....
