Letter from Karcich Complains of Post Coverage

The following letter was addressed to The Connecticut Post.

To the Editor:

On the morning of May 10, Tim Shriver of the Kennedy family, Michael Fox from Congressman Shays' office and Joseph Leonetti, Chairman of Bridgeport's Special Olympics Committee, made an appearance at Central High School. They came to Central to accept a $555.00 check from members of the student body who, working under the supervision of Cynthia Latham, a physical education teacher, raised this money for the 1995 Special Olympics Games. The Central students will assist Mr. Leonetti in hosting the Brazilian contingent to the games here in the city of Bridgeport.

Channel 3 was present at this event, but The Connecticut Post  was noticeably absent in spite of eight telephone calls which apparently did not warrant a response.

As Principal of Central, I cannot help but wonder if the Post  would have been present at a similar event in a suburban or parochial school. Of this I am certain: had a violent act or other tragedy occurred on or near campus, we would have made page one.

Central pupils are responsible for countless selfless deeds which are not reported in The Connecticut Post. Central pupils accomplish a great deal in the academic and humanitarian fields but infrequently receive the publicity that the Post l lavishes on pupils from other schools.

The Connecticut Post is decidedly remiss in this area, and I feel that the time has come to rectify this inequity.

Andrew A. Karcich
Principal

The response received from this letter to the editor was an interview of Ms. Latham by a Post  reporter.
