The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute captures the spirit and drama of the countless individuals some well known, most unsung - who dared to confront racial discrimination and bigotry. Dedicated on November 15, 1992, the Institute is a community's commitment to the courageous souls who walked to freedom. It is also a testament to building bridges of understanding among all people.
The exhibitory program is literally a movement through
the history of African-American life and the struggle for civil rights
and human rights worldwide. Visitors experience for themselves the drama
of this courageous story as it is reenacted in the
permanent displays.
