Tune in to the local news for information about a walk out that occured at Jefferson this morning(10/1/98). Approximately 200 students (low estimate?) walked off campus to protest an apparent "lack of funding that Jefferson has been getting while there has been an increased funding of money to build prisons". This apparent social uproar originated at Westmoor High School (?) and somehow became Jefferson's problem too. Yes, you read right, the reason for the protest was because supposedly, "Jefferson has been recieving less funding while a new prison will be built somewhere in Northern California". Commentary: First of all, hum...lets think about that one for a second...Jefferson recieved a 7 million dollar grant to create a digital high school and the students think that we are not recieving enough funding? If they would look around them, the campus has been overloaded with new and exciting things. The campus is in the process of installing new computers in every class and there is a new paint make-over. In our opinion, it was basically an "ungenious" walk out. Most students walked out without knowing why they were joining in the protest. Even the media was there as early as 7:10a.m., to capture all the uproar. However, school resumed as usual for those students who decided to stay on campus. Recently, we found out that many more students all over the bay area, gathered at a local BART station to protest together for the cause.
COLOR OR NO COLOR, THAT IS THE QUESTION:
Remember the brown pinkish paintjob Jefferson had? Well, the campus was painted this past weekend with an off-white color.
MURAL'S NEED REPAINTING!:
The murals that were painted near the English wing on campus during the 1993-1994 school year, have been painted over. Those of you who know who painted them or designed them, give Jefferson a call and ask for Bonny, Kelly, or Vanessa, or e-mail us at bfloyd@juhsd.k12.ca.us, mkduong@sfsu.edu, or vwong1@juhsd.k12.ca.us, for info on getting together to repaint the murals.
OPINIONS OR DONATIONS APPRECIATED:
Opinions or donations are appreciated for the redesign of the murals. For those of you who don't know, the mural painted inside the cafateria during the late 70's, was painted over this past summer. Now, there were six murals at the side of the English Department. Depending on the ok of the principal, we would like to redesign them and make Jefferson look like it used to. Wait for updates on the mural project. Thank you.
CLASS OF 1948 REUNION ANNOUNCEMENT:

DIGITAL SIGN UP AND RUNNING:

JEFFERSON ON KPIX, CHANNEL 5 NEWS:
For those of you who missed it, Jefferson was featured in a segment on KPIX channel 5's 5 o'clock news (on 9/15/98). The main reason for the story was the construction and how it is effecting the learning environment. Several video shots of the new classrooms were shown (with and without students) and also the major construction areas around campus. Since most of the video was taken after school hours, no students were interviewed. However, several District Superintendants were at Jefferson with the camera crew to check the progress of the construction for themselves. Overall, they portrayed the story in a negative light. The construction company is way behind schedule and yet the students still have to go to class with all the distractions around them. Also mentioned was, Terra Nova High School and their same construction chaos.
CLASS OF 1989 REUNION ANNOUNCEMENT:
The Class of 1989 reunion will be held next year and the organizers are searching for graduates. If you're interested in being a part of the reunion committee or if you have names, addresses, phone numbers and/or e-mail addresses of Class of 1989 grads, send e-mail to Eugenie Eugenio Guadron (Jeannie) at: jeannie@logos.com
CONSTRUCTION CONSTRUCTION CONSTRUCTION!:
Jefferson isn't as you remembered it. Since recieving a modernization grant, there have been new restrooms and science labs as well as new classrooms, heating, computer wiring and paint. Where did Jefferson find room for new classrooms you ask? The main office and library are in the process of becoming classrooms. Whereas, the main office and library are now located in the new cafateria/main office/library building. There is no longer a huge gap above the cafateria. It has been patched in order to hold the library and several classrooms above it. Also of note, the buildings have been named, Building A, Building B, etc... and new lockers were installed. However, the lockers have not yet been used, due to a late order of locks. So, as of this month, Jefferson is still under construction.
