The Church of Christ
An Introduction to the Church of Christ
JESUS CHRIST - THE CENTER OF OUR BELIEF
|
Matt 1:21 And she shall bring
forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people
from their sins. (KJV)
Mark 1:11 And there came a voice from heaven,
saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. (KJV)
John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming
unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the
world. (KJV)
|
The first four books of the
New Testament reveal to us the coming of a Savior who had been promised by God
to save His people from their sins. At His birth, an angel of God instructed
them to "call his name JESUS: for He shall save His people from their
sins". (Matt 1:21) Later, at His baptism in the Jordan river, the Holy
Spirit descended upon Him and a voice from heaven said "Thou art my
beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." (Mark 1:11) The next day John saw
Jesus and acknowledged that He would later be offered as a sacrifice for sin
when he said "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the
World!" (John 1:29) Jesus once asked his disciples "But whom say ye
that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou are the Christ, the Son of
the living God." Two verses later, Jesus said He would build His Church on
this confession of fact.

John 3:16-17 For God so loved
the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him
should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the
world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
(KJV)
|
The purpose of his coming is
clearly given in John 3:16-17. "For God so loved the world, that he gave
his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but
have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the
world; but that the world through him might be saved." Jesus taught many
truths, such as the Sermon on the Mount, and performed many miracles, including
raising Lazarus from the dead. But, greatest of all, he gave his own life as a
perfect sacrifice for our sins, when he was crucified on Calvary. This message
would be hollow and without power if it were not also true that he arose from
the dead the third day and has ascended unto the Father in Heaven.

1 Cor 3:11 For other
foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (KJV)
Acts 4:11-12 This is the stone which was set
at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is
there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given
among men, whereby we must be saved. (KJV)
|
This is the center of our
belief. It is the foundation on which we must build. "For other foundation
can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ." (1 Cor 3:11)
Speaking of Jesus Christ, Peter said to the Jews, "This is the stone which
was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under
heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." (Acts 4:11-12)

Col 1:13-14 Who hath delivered
us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his
dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of
sins: (KJV)
|
The apostle Paul further
explained Jesus' mission when he said, "Who hath delivered us from the
power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In
whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:"
(Col 1:13-14)
