Epic Of Gilgamesh

When the Gods created me, Gilgamesh
Of perfect body, courage, and beauty consist of their list

2/3 God and 1/3 man henceforth I became
The city of Uruk is where I will state my claim

Through my wisdom I made decision I believe was for the best
Unaware the decisions I make would lead to my closest friend death

Despaired in heart I fell apart and in the forest is where I slept
A hunter I became as I roamed the plains in my bitterness I wept

Afraid of death I went on a quest for a place called Faraway
His name is Utnapishtim filled with wisdom, so I’ll lesson to what he his to say

Then darkness came and the things I’ve seen has made so afraid
So to the moon down on my knees for protection from them I prayed

So at length I came to a mountainous plain and Mashu was its name
Shielding my eyes I approached two guys half dragon and also man

Child of Gods you’ve come so far tell me what is it you quest
My best friend is dead and I’m so afraid was his death righteously just

I love this guy for days I cried tell me why did he have to die
We feel what you ask but no man has quest the twelve leagues we’ll let you try

I heard what they said and went on my way no light I’ll see for days
I went one league - darkness the mountain bleeds but I continued on my way

After eight leagues of darkness I yelled, scream, and shake
I have four more leagues to go so another step I shall take

After eleven leagues of darkness it seems the light has appeared
Now after twelve leagues of darkness I guess I’m finally here

The garden of Gods stood all around me many bushes bearing gems
The Gods appear with much to say and I heard words from all of them

Son I know what you seek but you shall never find
Turn back and go and save yourself some time

I replied - cover my face with dirt as I lie
For if I do not finish this quest I shall surely die

Now as I prepare to cross the sea with the man that runs the ferry
I’m also close to everlasting life I can see it also clearly

Oh father please can you tell me
Is there away to find what I long to be

Son you seem to be smart why do you act so dense
There is no state of permanence

For when the Gods came together to view your life show
Life and death they decide but the day of death they do not disclose

Angry with mankind they schemed to whip us all out with a flood
It came to me in a dream after the sixth day of flood I released a dove

I open the hatch as the sun fills my eyes
I sat down and wept the tears streamed down my face as I cry

So before you leave I will offer you something
You came much to fare to let you leave here with nothing

I shall reveal to you a secret handling the task I don’t know if you can
But there is a flower at the bottom of the sea that will give back youth to a man

Stone in hand tied to my feet I drop it into the sea
I can’t stand to see what I’ve become to be this flower will make my soul complete

Thorns cuts my hand I’m no longer a man youthful life I've found
Let me find my way back to the shore or I shall surely drown

Virtually - strength this plant will bring to any man that partakes
After leagues of travel I had it stolen by a snake

I hope you all learn from my own selfishness
For this is why I wrote the Epic of Gilgamesh
