Plastic was created in 1997 as a footnote to the infamous Campus Carrier strip "Thunderpool" by Owen Eliasen. Originally published under the titles "Your Postmodern Folk-Core Saviors," and later "A Danielle Steele Novel," Plastic filled in for Thunderpool on a few occasions and eventually became weekly in 1998.

A non-situational non-linear single panel strip for most of its existence, Plastic has been a home for over forty characters, including Axl Rose, numerous aliens, a duck, many cyclopses, a bunny, Vladmir Lenin, and Allan Ginsberg. It has been drawn by such notables as Joseph McCarthy, Sirhan Sirhan, Chester Alan Arthur, Annie Dillard, Andy Kaufman (before that movie), Ben Vereen, Daryl Hall (without John Oates), Ben Harper, Tom Servo, Vincent Vega and David Squires (aka D.S.)

In Spring of 2000, Plastic began a storyline with recurring characters and a linear plotline; in July the first ever Arabic-language Plastic was published. In keeping with its revolutionary spirit, Plastic's format will likely continue to evolve in the future. The semester-long exile from the Campus Carrier prompted the formation of the Plastic Liberation Organization, which is quickly became a force to be reckoned with in Mount Berry, Georgia. (If you would like to know more about the P.L.O., email us.) But Plastic is back for one last semester--and is as powerful as ever.

Plastic is published online at Toonscape, as well as here.
