Mental Health & Addiction Treatment...Monies Spent, Then And Now...And The Decline Of...

The following piece is an excerpt from the May, 1999 (Vol. 5) issue (4) of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP) newsletter, Visions. It depicts the status of mental health and substance abuse 'benefit costs as a percent of total health care benefit costs' (top graphic), and the 'change in value of addiction treatment benefits' (bottom graphic) between the years 1988-1998. Obviously, 'Managed Care' has been the 'villain' in The Decline and Fall of the Treatment Empire. This piece ties in with my other page--MH & SA Parity--which all goes to show the plight of mental health and particularly substance abuse 'victims' of the Managed Care era, these past 10 years or so.
(This is only *this* social worker/therapist's opinion, but it is the voice of/for those who might or do care.)
