TOMMYTUBA'S WORLD

Welcome my friends! Updated August 19, 2007

Hi! Welcome! First let me introduce myself. My name is Tom Thomas and I am a band director. I love my work with kids and as my nickname implies, I am a tuba player. I still enjoy playing my tuba when I get the chance, with the kids at school, at church, with the West Michigan Winds, the Radiant Brass ensemble or occasionaly with one of the symphonies in the area. For ten years I was principal tuba of the Springfield Symphony in Missouri before moving back to my home state of Michigan. I taught for 8 years in Missouri, and now, after 4 years as assistant band director in Ludington, I am beginning my 8th year as director of bands and choirs for Mason County Central Schools in Scottville, MI, just east of the Lake Michigan shoreline. This school year started before school actually started. We had 2 home games before Labor Day. The marching band had a wonderful show, "Bond, James Bond." The jazz band had four performances in August as well. The concert band earned straight I ratings at district festival last March, including straight A's from one judge. They received straight A's from all judges at state festival on April 27 and again received straight I ratings. The music groups performed over 50 times in public during the last school year. That is incredible! The school website's area for band is not working at present but the choir part is and there is a recording for you to hear. I will let you know when the band part is back up and I hope you will check it out! There will be photos and mp3s of our performances.

On the family front, Andy and Michelle threw a big party for Elliette's first birthday in July. She is walking very well now and wants to go everywhere. Andy moved the Artist's Market downtown in Ludington and has a very nice location. Josh became married to his love Krissy in January and are the new proud parents of James Daniel Thomas, born October 16! Donna is doing well as always as a first assistant manager at McD in Ludington. We are proud first time home owners in Scottville, just a few blocks from the high school. Come visit. With 3200 square feet of home, we have the room. Timo, our German exchange student has completed his second year with us and graduated in May. He is back for yet another year, this time at Muskegon Community College. We have had a wonderful time with him and look forward to the new year. His parents and a family friend visited in April and we had a wonderful visit.

Here I am, age 50.

Here I am at Josh and Krissy's wedding.
