Language Teaching Context

Introduction

 As foreign language teachers, we are usually surrounded by an academic atmosphere closely related to our major field of work. This constraint of scope limits our vision of a broader teaching context which – trespassing the pedagogical boundaries – may show us the links that exist between language teaching and other related disciplines. These, in one way or another, contribute to the whole framework of the educational system.

The aim of this chapter is, then, to give secondary school teachers and teacher trainees an overall idea of the whole context of foreign language teaching and also to make them aware, now and in the near future, of their role as teachers in the specific setting of the Colombian educational system.
