Yorkshire Terrier

A great dog in a little body.

Yorkshire puppies are born black and tan, with an intermingling of black hair in the tan. As they mature, their coats grow longer, and the black hair lightens to a dark steel blue. With an air of importance the Yorkie proudly displays its straight and silky coat, parted on the back from nose to tail and a topknot of hair tied with a ribbon in the center of the Yorkie's head.The silky coat of the Yorkshire Terrier requires frequent brushing, many hours to spend with your pet, and your Yorkie loves it. With a glint in its eye, the intelligent little Yorkie seems to know how stylish a picture it presents. The Yorkie was originally a worker's dog. The Yorkshire Terrier was bred by weavers, in Yorkshire and Lancashire during the Victorian period, who wanted a dog to kill rats.The energetic Yorkshire Terrier fit the bill perfectly. The yorkie makes a good watchdog and family pet. It is easily trained and gets along well with other pets including cats.
The Yorkshire Terrier appears to be a mixture of several terrier breeds. Skye and Dandie Diamont Terriers, the Paisley Terrier, the Clydesdale Terrier and perhaps the Maltese breed as well.
The Yorkshire Terrier has a compact body, short legs, and an upright carriage. A small head with a flat top and flat V-shaped ears. The eyes are dark with dark rims and a black nose. Round feet with black nails. The Yorkie carries its tail, with a long fall of hair, curled over its back. ( Docked tails not allowed in Sweden)
Weight 2-3 kilogram. Height appr. 20 centimeters.
