Washing Ritual
The white porcelain basin is marred by splattering red.
The sacrificial cow is drained of steamy life.
Blue-green eyes dim away to dusty marbles in waxen flesh.
The cow is discarded as all the others before.
Buried where all the others will be.
Her ladyship takes the pristine white sponge in hand.
Dips gently into red filled porcelain.
Savor the sponge's fulfillment with liquid life.
Wash away the grime of life that can so mar a perfect complexion.
Wash away the years like the forgotten Contessa of the Old World.
