Two weeks ago today I celebrated my 73rd birthday, which to me
seems incredible... it's a lie. But the year on my birth
certificate is 1924. Well! I just think that somebody "up
there" has been fooling around with the calendar and with my
body... it's been slowed down, fatted up and wrinkled over, but
my mind is still eager to learn and see what tomorrow brings.
On April 30th I received word of the death of my mother's
youngest brother, the last of my parents' siblings. He was
little more than 5 years older than I, so he was always more like
a big brother than an uncle. Two years ago the last of my
father's siblings passed away. With the second passing I
realized that I'm now the first generation and when I'm gone
there will be no one left to connect my children, grandchildren
and great grandchild with the generations who have gone before,
so now the phrase "I remember when" takes on new meaning; they
are the links connecting the future to the past.
