title: Spring Scents
Spring has arrived and with it comes memories evoked by the scent of cherry blossoms, freshly mown grass, newly budding trees and lawn clippings clinging to shoes wetted down by a stroll across the quad; wasps buzzing at the doors, making people duck as they enter or leave; birds chirping inside the walls, as they nest at the outside corner of the roof; screens hanging off of clotheslines as they're hosed down, patched up and rehung; jackhammers and backloaders rumbling and clattering in haste to finish a new building; temperatures rising and falling so that it becomes farcical to even attempt to dress weather-appropriate; cats catterwalling their cries for mates; the train's whistle traveling further in the stillness of night; a bounce to your step that comes unbidden and makes your feet smile; sighs escape as lovers, younger and younger, dance past your eyes and sing into your heart; a touch remembered as your hand brushes across your face, pushing a lock of hair away from your forehead; and the memories keep flooding your mind... Friday night tortilla bakes; chiller theater goosebumps; that first flower brought "just because;" forgiveness begged, forgiveness given; wounds slowly healed by the scent of cherry blossoms, freshly mown grass, newly budding trees and lawn clippings clinging to shoes...
