In the Johnstown flood of e-mail which the Karass list has spawned, I missed what the 'I' in 'AIM' stands for. Would you be kind enough to repeat for we slow-thinkin', mint julep drinkin', mind decayin' Virginia gentlmun? Thanky ewe, Ms. Alice Lisa Huntley Betts Jones McCombs

Alice filled in some gaps with her answer:

Alice
From my mother's mother Alice; definitely from Wonderland--in her youngest years as the step-daughter of the engineer who built the Hoover dam, Alice and her sister Norma were the hit of town fairs due to their ability to give electric shocks to anyone. Grandmother Alice was dancing to "Alice Blue Gown" at the time I was born, so mother thought naming me after her would be a good idea.
Irene
My father's mother who lived a rather ordinary life as the wife of the Methodist, Shriner owner of an Overhead Door company. My mother thought since she named me after one grandmother, she'd better name me after the other one.
Lisa
When she was little my sister Dee Dee could not say a lot of her letters. Somehow Alice became Leeta and gradually Lisa. I kept Lisa for the longest time, because I did not like Alice. I mean really think about it--would you like a name people can do this with-- Well! Alice didn't live here for a long time
Huntley
My father's name, 64th cousin to Chet Huntley. Father's great grandfather was black sheep royalty (married a commoner) descended from Mary Queen of Scots. The same Huntleys who rebelled against their Mary.

My mother's great great grandfather was also black sheep royalty (descended from Elizabeth I) who married a commoner. This side of the family drilled for oil in Texas only sigh to run into salt water. Sigh.

Betts
The Karass formed when Lisa & David Betts moved into the other side of an 4-plex apartment building where Margaret Heath had just moved in 4 days earlier and David Bornside had lived for a while.
Jones
The Karass bloomed when Margaret discovered Jennifer and the Jones boys.

Got tired of going back to maiden name and enjoy the illusion of being Irish even though I'm really English/Scotch.

AIM is a total amusement. I think it's one of the main reasons my boss, Ken Fish, hired me. Mr. Fish was one of the Menominee who occupied the Novitiate in 1973 ( a mini-Wounded Knee). The clerical staff in the Tribal offices chuckle when the office distributes letters originating from KF/aim.
