About Me- John David Harrington
Actually born as John David Harris in Charleston, W. Virginia. By age two my mother had moved my sister and me to New York City which became my Alma Mater for 18 years. I graduated from Newtown High School in Queens in 1945 and attended CCNY for the next two years (pursuing geology major???). I came out to Las Vegas to visit with my mother but soon had to go to work. I married a local girl who gave me two beautiful daughters. Spent seven years with a local bank, got disgusted with the pay and lack of advancement and went to work as asssistant manager for a lumber company which taught me the building skills I later used to build several homes. First marriage failed (I took equal responsibility)-ended in divorce, so I was able to go back to college- earned a degree which enabled me to switch careers to teaching. Chose teaching because I had found much satisfaction working as a Scoutmaster for six years. Tried marriage
again but turned out to be a slow learner in that field- another divorce. Finally met my third wife right under my nose (she was teaching next door to me). We  celebrated thirty-three years of living and sharing our lives.  But more than anything else she gave me two sons the easy way. I am as proud of my sons as I am my natural birth daughters. I have spent the remaining years actively teaching and pursuing my profession. Along the way developed a travel business with my wife- leading tours around the world- and have traveled independently- exploring the byways and streets of the world. Skiing and hiking were dominant forces in my life for many years. Pride myself on being on first-hand hiking knowledge with much of the Southwest. I have become a bridge fan in the last decade, love to read. Cinema and what theater I can get my hands on are as much needed as a daily meal. Have four children total- scattered around the country, who have produced eight grandchildren. Finally stopped working parttime at a private school.  I have embraced the
computer world with enthusiasm, hoping to learn something everyday of my life. My wife died in January of 2000. The loss was painful. I was able to regenerate myself thru the loving concerns of two people specifically, Jack Sawyer and Ann Cronin. Both of them led me back into the world of the living. I have been working part-time again- house manager for a local theater, running a national testing program for the government, hiking and biking around the Southwest, traveling across the country, to Canada, to England, to Hawaii, to sailing with my daughter in the Carribbean. Life is good-- and I am ready to embrace what life has to offer once again.
on the trail and loving it
