You sit there silent, not understanding
as I dig my fingers into the steering wheel
praying not to swerve and hit the barried up ahead.
You roll your eyes, mocking my feelings
     as I clench my teeth
peering at the dimly lit road as it weaves around the mountain.
You open your mouth, spewing accusations at my head
as I tense in my seat
accelerating blindly through the hateful night.
The car swerves out of my control
as I see the road flash before my eyes
and the moments that brought us to this point.
I slam the brake hard, unfortunately too late
as we go over the embankment
slipping sliding until the car halts.
We are thrown forwards
     as our harnesses catch us
          before hitting the windowshield.
I slump back in my seat
     bruised and confused
not knowing how it all happened so fast.
You sit there silently concerned
     looking over, nudging me
          asking me if I'm okay.
You open your mouth
     communicating your feelings
of all that had happened and when you believed it went wrong.
I shake my head,
remarking how all of what you thought
          wasn't what it seemed.
I look at you,
     searching your eyes
explaining how all you needed to do was tell me.
We wearily sigh,
as I try to restart the car,
          sputtering at first.
Once it caught,
we eased out of our ditch
and started our journey anew into the night.
