Pictures of machine-guns

When I draw pictures of machine guns,
I like to listen to the real cop shows
If only for accuracy in my art.

When I draw pictures of knives,
I like to watch movies with pirates
And Kung Fu Men. I make their blades,
With wicked hooks and jagged
Edges so the wounds won't close.

When I draw pictures of muscle cars,
I like to trace them from glossy magazines.
I like them shiny, fast and new,
I like the girls in bikinis,
The color of tangerines.

When I draw pictures of robots,
I like to watch lost in space reruns.
I draw spaceships like saucers,
And set them down on  planets unknown,
I like my alien girls green
In prom gowns of foam.

    When I draw pictures,
I like to tell stories, not,
"Happily ever after," not the
"Once upon a time" kind,
But those that tend to quicken.
Those stories that take root,
The stories that spread,
When I draw pictures.
