Molly Walker

I was a very good child. I did what I was told, always got good grades in school, and very rarely got into any trouble. Then, when I turned thirteen, I started to experiment with things like cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs. It was about that same time that we discovered that my father was bipolar. Everything came to a head one day, and he threatened us, so we left (my mother and I). We never went back except to move our things. That started a long downward spiral for me. I started doing drugs a lot, and I altogether stopped going to school. I failed every class the second semester of my freshman year. My mother and I were living in a tiny little one bedroom apartment when we got a call at two in the morning. My dad was drunk and threatened to kill us. We called the police. When the case went to court so that we could get a restraining order, We went and stayed in a safe house in Denver. We won the case and moved back out. By this time I was starting to show signs of clinical depression. We went to see psychologists, and finally a psychiatrist who prescribed both my mother and I Prozac. We were asked if we could housesit for a friend for a year, so we moved to a beautiful $300,000 home just outside of Castle Rock, Colorado. I met my current boyfriend then, and my mother met her current husband. I started at an excellent high school, and was able to bring my grades back up to A's and B's. I stopped doing drugs and drinking, though I was thouroughly addicted to cigarettes (and I still claim that addiction).

I don't know what it was that suddenly stopped me from going downhill. It was more than just Prozac, or the move to Castle Rock. Even through the worst of it all, it never occured to me that it would always be that way. For some reason, I never thought about always messing around with my life. I just always assumed that I would come out of it and get back on track. It was less of a downfall in my life than it was a sidetrack. I just lost sight of my future for a while. There have been many, many instances like this throughout my life, and they have all ended the same. Looking back at them now, I don't look at them as terrible misfortunes, but as facts, just like anything else that happened in my life. It has been these consistant ocurrances and their outcomes that have shaped who I am today. I have the ability to deal with things that might otherwise have destroyed me, and to remain positive and driven in life. For all the trouble they caused, events like that have made me who I am, and I am happy with that.

I was born and raised in Colorado, but have lived in many different cities. I went to nine different schools between kindergarten and twelfth grade. I have a half brother and sister, an adopted brother and sister, and a step brother and sister. Currently I have eleven nieces and nephews. I have a very large family, but I didn't grow up with any of them. The only one who has been around my whole life is my mother. We've always gotten along well. I've had four fathers; a biological father that I never met, a step father, an adopted father, and another step father. The one that I refer to as my father is my adopted father. He married my mother when I was five, and adopted me at age nine. We left him when I was thirteen, but he raised me, and did a good job of it. My family is scattered all over, but I get to see them occasionally. I have had a boyfriend for two and a half years now, and we are planning on getting married in a year or two. He has a wonderful family, with five brothers, and I enjoy spending time around them. Though a have a few friends and a few more aquaintences, I spend most of my time with these people.

I am not a very social person, but I do enjoy going out with people from time to time. I really prefer to spend most of my time alone, though. I work and think the best on my own, and I find that I am most productive when I'm not in the company of others. I'm not a very active person either, but one of my favorite things to do is go on long walks, usually at night. I also enjoy doing anything artistic. I like to draw and paint, but sculpting is my favorite. I also love to read and write. My favorite things to read are fantasy novels. When I write, it is usually in the form of poems, though I like to write short stories and letters to friends. Writing is a way for me to organize my thoughts and to work through problems.

I love to listen to music and sing along, although I don't have a very good voice. My favorite kind of music is classic rock. My favorite band is Queen, shortly followed by Boston. My favorite color is red, and my favorite animal is an eagle. I also like dragons , but I figure it's not a real animal, so I can't claim it as my favorite. My other major interest is airplanes. I love to fly. I am now holding a job with United Airlines at Denver International Airport. I have thought about becoming a commercial pilot, but I prefer the private planes to the big jets, and plan to be more of a hobby pilot. As long as I'm dicussing favorite things, I can't skip John Travolta. I'm a Travolta freak. I plan to, one day, own every movie he's ever made. It's one of my main goals in life. 1
