I Dove into the water.
To forget.
I went down.
I saw your face, and then it was gone, and I saw someone else's--a stranger's.
I don't remember after that.
Then I woke up.
I was in a room I'd never been in before.
At first it seemed like there was no door; then one of the windows became a door, or perhaps a just realized it was a door.
I was lying on the floor.
There was no bed; only a chair--an old wooden straight chair, painted blue.
There was also a mirror. I stood up and looked at myself.
It wasn't me.
That is, it was me, but I didn't look like me.
I looked like the face I'd seen in the water.
I looked out the window.
There was no one outside.
Just a nicely mown lawn, stretching off into the distance, as far as the eye could see.
There were no clouds in the sky.
Just pure blue.
I pulled up the sash.
Not a sound outside.
I felt sleepy.
I turned around .
