A Walk With John

I walked with a man,
Down the road of his life.
A man who sang of peace, and love,
While living in our hate filled world.
And while he sang I noticed,
His thin, frail body,
And the sadness in his voice.
He sang of the mother,
Who let him down,
And of the father,
He barely knew.
Then, from behind the steel-rimmed glasses,
I saw a tear in his eye.
We walked through the public glory,
And through the private pain,
Until the moment when the fatal bullet was shot,
A life of happiness,
And torment was ended.
And I said goodbye to a legend.
