Most parents expect high quality service from their child day care service. Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa Community College (LCOOCC) can help ensure quality day care by educating and traning daycare workers for their certification and state licenses.

Wendy Sanders, day care instructor, will teach the "Child Day Care Certification" workshop from April 7th to April 11th from 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM each day on the LCOOCC campus.

"The workshop is set up for five 8-hour sessions so that people can gain immediate licensing and job placement," Sanders said.

The State of Wisconsin requres day care workers to obtain a license under two conditions: they serve 3 or more children, or they serve children whose tuition and fees are paid with public funds, according to Sanders.

The workshop includes topics on health, safety, nutrition, lesson planning, guidance and discipline issues. The year, the LCOOCC program will include a new video series that covers family day care issues in addition to group day care issues.

"I'm looking forward to working with a new video series. It's called, 'The Village of Kindness,' and it has 10 topics the class will discuss," Sanders said. Child day care centers typically serve children from 6 weeks to 12 years of age. And that includes both pre-school and school-age children, she added.

Students in older age groups can lookforward to a new collaboration between several local schools and businesses.

Educational leaders of the Hayward area met on the LCOOCC campus. March 24th, to initiate a partnership between schools and businesses to improve education. Their goal is to bring together the resources of people, finances, and time to enhance educational services for all staff, students and community members.

The initial partnership members include: Dr. Minhas, president of LCO college, Mr. Trautt, superintendent of Hayward Community Schools; Sue Gardner, Hayward school community relations; and Scott Johnson, assistant principal of Hayward Middle School. They plan to invite other schools inthe area to join them in forming this new alliance between schools and businesses.

LCOOCC faculty and students will enjoy spring break from March 28th until April 4th. The administrative staff wishes a safe journey and a safe return to all students during their holiday travel.
