November 1998

Thursday 26 November 1998
So, winter is beginning to bite again. Although, it's not yet as bad as it might be. Now THAT's a cue for a blizzard to arrive ....

The Christmas lights have just been turned on in George Street. And it's not December yet! It gave me quite a shock! I was in George Street at five o'clock and the lights were strung up ... waiting. I went back at six-thirty .... and they were all lit up! I had no idea Christmas was THAT close! However, the George Street lights are very good. In my opinion, far better than those in London. They say 'Happy Christmas' and 'Happy New Year' in at least six different languages. There is something very elemental about blazing lights against the dark and cold of winter. I grew up in Northern darkness, and to me, Christmas and New Year are very necessary. It's a release against the darkness ..... warmth and light. The Winter Festival. Fire against Dark and Cold. A Time for Warmth. And if you are lucky enough, a time for family, a time for remembering.

Come and see our lights if you can ...
