Lab 1, May 13 -- Orientation. (0 points) Lab 2, May 15 -- Resume. Cover letter. (50 points + 50 points = 100 points) Lab 3, May 20 -- News story from information provided in lab. (100 points) Lab 4, May 22 -- Homework due 24 hours before lab: E-mail a memo on personality profile. In lab, the instructor will make matchups for personality profile. A longer news story from information provided in a fact sheet distributed in lab. (100 points) Lab 5, May 27 -- Assignment: Write a news story with quotes. (10 points + 100 points = 110 points) Lab 6, May 29 -- Bring first draft of personality profile and revise it in lab. (100 points) Lab 7, June 3 -- Revise feature profile of lecture guest based on in-lecture interview of that guest. (100 points) Lab 8, June 5 -- Write a science feature based on in-lecture interview of a scientist. Bring rough draft to class and re-write in class. (100 points) Lab 9, June 10 -- Write a news release based on information provided in a fact sheet distributed in lab. (100 points). Receive back science feature for re-writing. Lab 10, June 12 -- 1) Write a restaurant review. 2) Second draft of science feature article due. Turn in notes on background research, notes from interview, drafts and source sheet. Note: Two assignments due by end of lab (200 points toward cumulative lab total). 3) Sign up for individual portfolio conferences to be held in Lab 12. Lab 11, June 17 -- Write a news feature for online publication. (100 points) Lab 12, June 19 -- Write and design a print advertisement based on mandatories assigned in lecture. (100 points) This assignment is to be completed outside of lab. Extra Credit: Turn in portfolio at individual conference. (20 points) Total points: 1,230 |
