Shila shivers as the two of you approach the city of Ersin. You have been journeying all day,
and evening is beginning to fall, bringing with it a slight chill to the air. Somehow, you don't
think the temperature is the reason that Shila is shivering. Ignoring her feelings toward this city,
you continue onward. There is a guard who looks nonchalantly at the two of you as you enter the
city. Shila stops where she is, glaring at you. 'I don't like being here.' she says simply. 'I think
we should stay just long enough to get a good night's rest and resupply ourselves, and then get out
of here!'
You tend to agree- you've heard stories about this place. It takes the both of you little time to
locate an inn and get rooms. As you are waiting for the innkeeper to
prepare your boarding for the night, you take a seat in the main area,
grateful for the chance to sit down. Shila sits next to you, though
whether it's because she's trying to avoid the many unsavory
denizens of the inn, or because she truly wants to you can't tell.
A minute or so goes by without conversation when suddenly, Shila
leans over to you.
'Spencer, it'll probably be a while until he gets done making up our
rooms. I imagine the last occupants, if they're anything like these
characters I see around me now, left quite a mess. So we have
plenty of time to talk.'
'Okay...' you say, not quite sure where Shila is going with this.
'Glad you agree, because I have a question for you. Why exactly
are we out here?'
You were afraid that she might ask that. Taking a deep breath, you
repeat what the King had told you - your mission. Shila looks surprised,
to say the least. Before she can come up with an answer, the innkeeper
reappears, handing you both the keys to your rooms.
Wearily, you climb to the second floor and enter your room, across
the hall from Shila's. You shed your armor and fall into the bed. Just as you are about to fall
asleep, you hear a noise from downstairs.
