'What is that thing?' Shila asks, looking over the edge of the bridge in
horror. Before she can answer, you grab ahold of her arm and pull her
toward the exit on the other side. After catching a glimpse of whatever
it is beneath her, Shila doesn't argue. The breeze increases in
turbulence and strength as you run - you can almost hear a cry
of dismay from the creature as the two of you dive into the cave at
the other side.
It takes a few moments for your eyes to adjust to the dark. Shila is sitting
on the other side of the cavern, her eyes wide with fear. Gurgling noises
can be heard from the open area that you just left.
'Let's go, before that thing manages to figure out where we are.' Shila
suggests, glancing further down the tunnel.
'We don't have any light' You point out. 'The torch burnt out back there.'
You can't tell in the murk, but you almost think Shila is smiling.
'Don't worry about that. Just follow me.' Shila starts walking down
the darkened end of the tunnel. You shrug and follow her, hoping
that she knows what she's doing.
The light level continues to diminish as you walk. You nearly lose sight
of Shila on more than one occasion, and are about to say something
when Shila suddenly stops. You look at her quizzically, but when
you notice that she's murmuring beneath her breath, you decide
not to interrupt her. Her hands, clasped in front of her, start to
glow a faint blue. Within moments, the tunnel is brightly lit. Still
murmuring, Shila walks forward, leading you through the maze of
stone.
Your first sight of natural light in what seems like hours streams through the opening in front of you. Shila is already outside, smiling brilliantly at you....
