Ivory Monolith
Ivory Monolith
You enter the forest just ahead of Shila, preparing for the worst.
Shila follows quietly, anticipating- with obvious distaste- gruesome
battle at any second. You reach the monolith entrance without
incident. After hesitating only a moment, you knock loudly on the
doorway and then crouch back, prepared for the worst.
A woman, dressed in what is obviously cleric's garb, answers the door,
surprise registering on her face when she sees your defensive stance.
'What's wrong boy? You look like you're preparing to fight the Nameless
Evil yourself!' she says. You relax a bit, but aren't prepared to let your
guard down completely. Shila, on the other hand, comes forward smiling,
extending her hand toward the woman.
'Allow me to apologize- we have had to be careful on our journey.
We were not sure what sort of person we would find here. I am very
relieved that I have found a cleric of my own kind. My name is Shila,
and this is Spencer.'
The woman looks toward you for a moment. 'Spencer...
That wouldn't happen to be Spencer Nichols, would it?'
Somewhat surprised that anyone would recognize you, you nod. 'Yes,
though I'm startled somewhat that you recognize me.'
The woman laughs good-naturedly. 'I don't imagine you thought you
had much of a following among clerics. There was that battle, a while
back against the Fanatics. You led the armies that protected us, and
helped turn the tide in our favor. There are tapestries devoted to you
in our halls, Sir Nichols. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Dana
Lysem, Elder Cleric of the Eleein order.'
You hear Shila gasp audibly. 'The elder cleric?' She blushes and
looks toward Dana apologetically. 'I had no idea, Elder. Forgive me
for my brashness...'
'Don't worry! You did not know. Normally, it would be a breach of
conduct, but I suppose I shall let it pass this time.' You can tell that
Dana finds the entire thing humorous and isn't serious about
punishing Shila at all, but your cleric friend apparently can't. Shila
breaths an enormous sigh of relief and the adopts a position of looking
reverently at the Elder Cleric.
Dana turns to the both of you. 'I am not busy at
the moment.... The two of you may enter if you wish, I have not had
company in quite some time and would appreciate the conversation.'
It seems to you that, in all probability, this woman recieves all sorts
of company. Being an Elder Cleric carries a lot of responsibility, and
she probably wouldn't get a lot done if she never communicated with
anyone. You stop to think for a moment. You could stay here- it would
be interesting to talk to the Elder Cleric of the Eleein order. You
may even be able to find out more information about the Onyx Wars.
On the other hand, the temple itself, further down, would have room
for you to stay, not to mention more supplies.
Stay Here
'Thank you, Elder. We would greatly enjoy your company as well!' you say as Dana leads the two of you inside.
Go on to the Temple
You can feel Shila glaring at you as you say 'I'm sorry, Elder, but we must be going- we have to resupply.'
