When I first learned that a plane crashed into one of the towers, I thought it was simply a terrible mistake. Then when I was informed that both towers had been hit and have crumbled to the ground, I was astonished. I could not believe that such an awful act had occurred. I was glued to the news broadcasts on the television. Even after several hours had passed, I still could not believe what had happened to the towers. I felt deep sympathy for the families of the dead and missing, however, I personally did not know anyone who died, which I am grateful for.
Time has passed and I still feel very sorry for the victims and their families of this tragedy. However, I feel America should continue on. I think the media is just using this tragedy as a ratings booster. It is important for American citizens to be notified with new, important information, but some channels broadcast around the clock news broadcasting. I feel that this is making the American people dwell on this misfortune even more.
The entertainment industry has halted the release of certain movies and shows. This has happened because the subject of terrorism, bombing, pictures of the twin towers, and other related topics appear in these programs. By not discussing and dealing with these types of subject matters, America will be unable to heal. Terrorism has been in existence for years, and now, it is a part of American’s lives and, unfortunately, as a society we have to accept this. On the other hand, a few channels continue to broadcast programs that have scenes of the twin towers. These broadcasters feel that by still presenting pictures of the twin towers, America displays to the world that we will survive and not be afraid. I agree with viewing such pictures because it will help America heal and continue on with life.
The attack on September 11, 2001, was definitely a rude awakening to the American public. For the first time, America was truly affected by terrorism. The attack at first was detrimental to out society’s spirit and economy, but now, after several weeks have passed, America has grown stronger and is beginning to move on with their live.
