The Department coordinates international cooperation to assist the Ministry's leadership and departments in international contacts and relevant objective setting and outcome assessment. This coordinative role is especially needed in Nordic cooperation; Finland's membership in international organisations, notably UNESCO and the Council of Europe; 38 bilateral cultural agreements and exchange programmes; the instruction and promotion of the Finnish language abroad; and cultural and educational contacts with expatriate Finns.
