Chapter 14
...the last hurrah.
by A C Gosser

With his body draped through the intertube, feet franticaly treading the liquid death and head gasping for air above the now turbulent water, Iggy didn't dare look behind to see how close the dog had become. His only chance was to somehow get over to the deep end where he had fallen into the pool, make his way down the some odd 10 feet to reach his firearm and then somehow, brandish his weapon upon the beast, stopping her and getting himself above water level while he was still this side of the grave. ...He admitted to himself some parts of the plan seemed more likely then others. As the bottom of the pool slowly descended beneath him, he knew it was now or never.

"I've got you now!", barked Fluffy. "Now you're going to pay, you little cold blooded...", she stopped. Taking hold of the intertube she found that Iggy was missing. Quickly she turned around, scanning the edges of the pool in every direction. Nothing. Only her panting and the sound of her own heart pounding in her chest broke the silence. The ripples from their struggle now reached the smooth tile wich composed the sides to the pool and were extinguished, erasing all visual signs of the drama that was at this very moment unfolding. "Where is that little...."

"Where is that little...." Directly beneath the furry legs of the dog, Iggy scanned the checkered pattern of the tile for his weapon. The enviroment Iggy found himself emerged in made movement difficult, and vision close to impossible. Every second he was becoming more and more aware of the lack of life in his lungs. Closing in on panic now, Iggy employed all four limbs and tail, tracing over the glossy surface, hoping beyond hope that the darkness that began to fill his eyes was in some way related to the time of day.

Fluffy's hair was in sopping mounds, drooping around her head, her eyes scanning the area around her, her nostrils still flared for being out of breath, her lips serious, now curled upright ever so slightly into a smile. "Well," she said to herself, "that only leaves one place," and she leaned foward to view the blueish-green water below her. What her eyes met at that point, she would never forget.

What is it that she sees?

  1. ...The action end of a .45 ?
  2. ...The corpse of one detective Iguana?
  3. ...well, I don't know, you tell me!
