The boy Samuel lay sleeping within the temple walls,
When he thinks that he hears that Levi calls
His name, obediently he crawls of out bed,
“It was not I who spoke.” was what Levi said.
Twice more a voice awoke the child from sleeping,
Then Levi knew that it was God who was speaking.
Speaking to a young child who was free from guile,
Easily taught as a child, and would be for awhile.
Oh, to have a listening ear, like the child Samuel,
Who was humble enough to know God so well,
That he did not question when He was told,
That it was God who called him, in days of old.
Give me a ears and heart of Samuel a humble child,
Please help me listen and obey, not be evil or wild,
But say in words, like Samuel, “ I am here Lord”
And so obey through my life Hi
s every word.
