THE CHILD JESUS
I wonder how Mary and Joseph felt
when Jesus could not be found?
Did they search long in the crowds
as they were homeward bound?
Then the realization that he was maybe
still there in the city of Jerusalem.
I wonder if they thought for a moment,
how could He do this thing to them?
I wonder what the teachers thought
of this young country boy?
Expounding on the scriptures,
did it them at all annoy?
These scriptorians and scribes
who knew God’s word
Maybe were a little tongue tied
because of what they heard.
I can see the young face glowing,
eyes full of pure love,
As He explained things of his Father
up in heaven above.
I wonder if they waited on His every word
that came with childlike simplicity
And marveled of the knowledge that flowed
from the child in full felicity.
I am sure I would have listened quietly
to the words of that child,
I think I would have known he would grow
to be humble, kind and mild.
But would I have known who he really was
sitting talking there?
He, the Saviour and the atoning one
full of loving and care.
