NAUVOO TEMPLE
Standing like a beacon of faith courage and love,
Bright as any star that shines in the heavens above,
A monument to let the world know we love the Lord
And will through every trial always obey His holy word.
The early Saints in Nauvoo were as poor as could be,
The Lord stated, Go and build a temple unto me.
No big bulldozers or electric saws or any such tools,
Other folks around told them they were silly fools.
But a commandment had been given, they must obey,
For through all their tribulations they followed the way
Pointed out to them, strived to choose the right each day,
They worked barefoot and hungry, God there mainstay.
Now those early Saints must be singing a triumphal song,
Once again the temple stands tall and grand, there among
The trees and sweet homes like it did so many years ago,
A light, a beacon, a masterpiece, our Love of God to show.
In a short while our quiet little meeting house will be
A house of the Lord, so we can watch and anxiously see
The dedication of this jewel set in a paradise of green,
I just wonder how many tear stained faces will be seen?
How many now long gone will join in the Hosanna shout,
Voice raised in triumphal song in the heavens and all about
This world so wide, I know I will cry and my heart overflow
With exquisite joy and it will stay a part of me wherever I go.
