JESUS AND THE CHILDREN
Just a few gathered around the Saviour sitting near the well,
I wonder what He said to them? What parables did he tell?
Did He tell them stories that all children love to hear?
Did He tell them all about heaven, and to have no fear?
Those water jars stayed quite empty, their tasks left undone
As they listened, there to Jesus, Gods only begotten son.
I am sure they felt His great love, felt His gentle power,
I wonder if they sat listening reverently hour after hour?
What impact did Jesus leave on each pure young heart?
I am sure they went forward always doing the good part.
I am sure their parents noticed an improvement in each child
After listening to Jesus, being with Him, so gentle and mild.
I wish I could have sat by Jesus, listening to His sweet voice,
Felt His arms around me so I would then make the wiser choice.
Although I have not heard that voice speak to me out aloud,
I have heard His voice in my heart above a noisy crowd.
He has given me so much comfort that my heart does sing
As if His strong arms were around me and true comfort bring.
Oh, how blest were those children who sat by the Lords knee,
Listening to Him quietly telling them of heaven and eternity.
