The painting of Jesus as he teaches the multitude
Has many close faces and you can study each mood,
One is full of wonder, and another full of love,
Knowing that man was sent from heaven above.
Their faces asking questions, could He be the one
To save us from slavery ? Have all the Romans gone?
Another disbelieving, one face with anger filled,
Already somehow scheming how to have him killed.
The face of a mother tenderly holding a small child,
Her face full of kindness, others look quite mild,
But the child has a finger poised with gentle care,
For there in quiet glory, a butterfly rests there,
On a veiled head, the child’s attention drawn away
By the sweet beauty of nature, on that special day.
I thought that when he was older, would he a follower be?
Think back to the day and remember the double beauty
Of the Master’s words and the butterfly’s delicate wing,
Tell the story of how he heard the truth one day in spring.
